Quick Answer
The Silverback MDRX 16" is an officially licensed Desert Tech replica AEG. Bullpup platform, 16" barrel, fully ambidextrous controls, three springs in the box, quick change spring system, 32 position rotary hop-up, and premium build quality throughout. 270 FPS stock with just over 1 Joule on 0.32g BBs. Hit a torso-size target at 40-45 yards right out of the box.
What's In The Box
Open the box and you're greeted with standout artwork on the outside — an exploded view of the MDRX with details throughout. Lift the lid and you get a protective foam layer with everything precisely fitted.
Read the manual first. The MDRX has MDR-specific quirks that aren't obvious out of the box. Silverback put a lot of time into covering all the details — read it before you shoot.
Everything in the box:
- Instruction manual — read it
- MDRX 16" with 140 round mid-cap magazine pre-inserted
- Free Silverback patch
- Tools and hardware for the fake charging handle
- Three springs — 100N, 80N, and a lighter spring pre-installed
- Additional hop-up nub for heavier weight BBs
Three springs in the box means three power levels. Pick the one that fits your field's Joule limits and swap it in with the quick change spring system — no tools, no teardown.

Licensed Trades And Unique Serial Number
Every MDRX 16" that comes out of the Silverback factory has laser-engraved Desert Tech trademarks and a unique serial number. This is an officially licensed replica — not a clone, not a copy.
If you run impressionist kits or collect licensed airsoft replicas, this is it.
Build Quality
Premium throughout. No wiggle, no rattle, solid in the hands from the moment you pick it up. The build quality reflects what you paid for.

Bullpup Platform — What That Means
The MDRX is a bullpup design — the gearbox and motor sit at the rear of the rifle. That gives you the full 16" barrel length in a significantly more compact overall package than a standard AEG with the same barrel length.
Most of the weight sits at the back of the rifle. That takes some getting used to if you're coming from a standard AEG layout, but once you adjust the handling advantage in tight spaces is significant.

Ambidextrous Controls
The fire selector is 3 position and fully ambidextrous — safe, semi, full. The layout mirrors an M4 selector. If you're an M4 user switching to a bullpup for the first time, the MDRX is probably the most translatable bullpup on the market for that transition.
The magazine release is the standout feature. Three release points — push button on each side of the gun plus a centralized button at the rear. The rear button is the one to use in the field. Press it in, rip the mag down, pop your fresh mag in without breaking your grip or your point of aim.

The Handguard
Slim M-LOK handguard with slots on the sides and bottom — attach grips, lights, or anything else you want to run. An included hand stop comes in the box. The slim profile feels genuinely good in the hands.
The Hop-Up — Important Notes
32 position rotary hop-up with audible and tactile feedback per click. Set a position and it stays there — no guessing, no drift.
⚠️ Access note: The hop-up dial is proprietary and located under the dust cover at the rear of the gun. The dial is small. If you have gloves on or large fingers, you're going to need a tool to adjust it in the field. Set your hop-up to the range you're going to be shooting at before you go out.
An additional heavy nub is included in the box for players running heavier weight BBs.

Battery — Read This Before Buying
Battery space in the MDRX is extremely limited. The manual shows you exactly what battery shape fits. The Titan battery works well out of the box — that's the recommendation. Check the manual before buying a battery if you don't already have one.
FPS Test — Pre-Installed Spring, 0.32g BBs
- 270 FPS
- Just over 1 Joule
- Consistent across every shot
The pre-installed spring keeps you well within most field limits out of the box. The 80N and 100N springs in the box let you increase power for fields with higher Joule limits — quick change system makes it a one-minute swap.

Range Test — 40-45 Yards
Target set at 40-45 yards. Hit a torso-size target with hand-size groupings at 40 yards stock.
- Semi-auto: Wider variance in groupings on a fresh gun — needs a break-in period. Run a few magazines through it before your first game.
- Full auto and burst: Straight line, extremely consistent right out of the box. If your field allows full auto or burst — this is a beast stock.

Upgrade Path
Three springs in the box means three power levels before you buy a single upgrade. The quick change spring system means you can swap between them in the field in under a minute. AR15 5.56 magazine adapters are available separately.
