Quick Answer

The Silverback VKS suppressor makes a significant difference — but only with foam installed. Without foam, the suppressor is quieter than bare muzzle but produces a hollow sound as air bounces inside the tube. With foam, the noise reduction is significant. Most of the remaining sound after foam installation comes from the bolt mechanism at the rear — not the muzzle. Here's the full breakdown.

What We Tested

Four configurations back to back:

  • VKS stock with orange tip
  • VKS with orange tip removed
  • VKS with full size suppressor — no foam
  • VKS with full size suppressor — foam filled

Plus a TAC-41 stock comparison at the end for reference.

The Orange Tip

The US version of the VKS ships with an orange tip. The orange tip has a recessed edge on the inside that actually eats up some of the muzzle report. Removing it makes the VKS slightly louder.

Empty Suppressor — No Foam

The full size VKS suppressor is 18 inches — longer than your arm. With no foam installed: quieter than bare muzzle but hollow sounding. No foam is included — purchase the VKS Silencer Foam Kit separately.

  • Full size suppressor — requires 2 foam kits
  • Half size suppressor — requires 1 foam kit

Foam Filled Suppressor — The Difference Is Real

With the VKS Silencer Foam Kit installed the difference is significant. The muzzle report drops noticeably. What remains is the bolt mechanism cycling at the rear — not the barrel.

TAC-41 Comparison

Stock TAC-41 for reference. The VKS with foam-filled suppressor is quieter than a stock TAC-41.

Results Summary

VKS — empty suppressor Quieter, hollow sound
VKS — foam filled suppressor Significantly quieter

Foam Kits — What You Need

FAQ

Does the VKS suppressor reduce noise?
Yes — significantly with foam installed. Without foam the reduction is moderate and hollow sounding.

Does foam come with the suppressor?
No — purchase the VKS Silencer Foam Kit separately. Full size needs 2, half size needs 1.

Does removing the orange tip make it louder?
Slightly — the recessed edge on the orange tip muffles some of the report.

What's the remaining noise after foam?
The bolt mechanism at the rear — not the barrel.
